Divine Books & Prophets

Introduction to the Prophets & Divine Books

Belief in the Prophets (Risalat) and the scriptures (Kutub) revealed to them forms two of the six fundamental Articles of Faith in Islam. Allah sent prophets to guide humanity, accompanying some of them with divine books as clear guidelines for spiritual and social life.

Classification: The Main Scriptures

Four major divine books are explicitly mentioned in the Holy Quran:

  • Taurat (Torah): Revealed to Hazrat Musa (A.S) (Moses) for the guidance of the Children of Israel.
  • Zabur (Psalms): Revealed to Hazrat Dawood (A.S) (David).
  • Injeel (Gospel): Revealed to Hazrat Isa (A.S) (Jesus) to revive and rectify the practice of the Torah.
  • Holy Quran: The final and complete revelation sent to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) for all of mankind, preserved word-for-word eternally.

In addition to books, several prophets received Sahifas (Scrolls), such as the Sahifas of Hazrat Ibrahim (A.S) and Hazrat Sheesh (A.S).
