Introduction to the Major Ghazwas

A Ghazwa is a battle in which Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) personally participated. A Sariyah is an expedition where the Prophet (PBUH) did not personally participate. These battles were essential for the defense of the nascent Islamic State in Madinah and for establishing justice in the Arabian Peninsula.

Classification: Significant Battles

  • Ghazwa-e-Badr (2 A.H.): The first major confrontation and a decisive victory for Muslims.
  • Ghazwa-e-Uhud (3 A.H.): A test of patience and obedience following a tactical setback.
  • Ghazwa-e-Khandaq (5 A.H.): Also known as the Battle of the Trench; a successful defense of Madinah.
  • Ghazwa-e-Khyber (7 A.H.): Conquest of the Jewish strongholds in Khyber.
  • Ghazwa-e-Hunain (8 A.H.): Battle against the tribes of Hawazin and Thaqif.
  • Ghazwa-e-Tabuk (9 A.H.): The last Ghazwa, directed towards the Roman (Byzantine) border.
