Ghazwas

A Ghazwa is a battle in which Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) personally participated. A Sariyah is an expedition where the Prophet (PBUH) did not personally participate. These battles were essential for the defense of the nascent Islamic State in Madinah and for establishing justice in the Arabian Peninsula.

• Ghazwa-e-Badr (2 A.H.): The first major confrontation and a decisive victory for Muslims.
• Ghazwa-e-Uhud (3 A.H.): A test of patience and obedience following a tactical setback.
• Ghazwa-e-Khandaq (5 A.H.): Also known as the Battle of the Trench; a successful defense of Madinah.
• Ghazwa-e-Khyber (7 A.H.): Conquest of the Jewish strongholds in Khyber.
• Ghazwa-e-Hunain (8 A.H.): Battle against the tribes of Hawazin and Thaqif.
• Ghazwa-e-Tabuk (9 A.H.): The last Ghazwa, directed towards the Roman (Byzantine) border.

• Hazrat Salman Farsi (R.A) proposed the digging of a trench (Khandaq) to defend Madinah.
• Hazrat Hamza (R.A), the "Lion of Allah," was martyred during the Battle of Uhud.
• Ghazwa-e-Tabuk took place during an extreme heatwave and is known as the "Expedition of Hardship" (Jaish-ul-Usrah).
• The Battle of Badr was fought on the 17th of Ramadan.
• Hazrat Ali (R.A) was given the title Asad-ullah (Lion of Allah) after his heroic performance at Khyber.
